      hang a Trompe L'oeil Mural
27" x 39"

learn how to hang a Photomural

   prepare

Fill in any holes or cracks with spackling compound.
Sand the wall, removing any paste residue or excess spackle. The wall should be smooth and clean.
Wash wall with a mild detergent to remove any dirt or dust created from sanding and allow to dry thoroughly.
Cover drywall, newly painted, and spackled walls with primer-sealer and let dry for 24 hours.
Apply vinyl wall sizing to insure that the wallpaper mural will easily slide when positioning it on wall. Sizing also helps prevent air pockets.

   apply

1. Trim the mural with scissors. You will notice that there is 1/4" of excess color around the design to prevent any white showing from an imperfect trim. Trim around the inner edge of the color, not the outer edge. The excess color is not part of the design.
2. Decide where you would like to hang your wallpaper mural and prepare the surface as instructed above.
3. When applying over painted, drywall, and spackled walls (See below for installation over wallpaper), cover a table with a drop cloth and fill a water tray 2/3 full with water at room temperature. Roll the trimmed mural from bottom to top, paste side out. Submerge into the water tray. Gently press the roll until all air bubbles have stopped. Soak for approximately 30 seconds.
4. “Book” the mural for about 3-5 minutes by folding each end toward the middle, paste sides together, aligning the edges carefully so they won’t dry out. Be careful not to crease the fold. Booking allows the adhesive to activate and the paper to relax and return to its original size.
5. Carefully unfold the mural and position it onto the wall. Using a brush or smoothing tool, gently smooth away air pockets, wrinkles or excess paste moving from the center to the edge. Wipe any paste from the top of mural with a clean, damp sponge.

Please Note: When applying over wallpaper, follow the same steps above, however, soak the rolled mural in cool water for only 20 seconds and do not book for more than 3 minutes. Apply vinyl-to-vinyl adhesive or border adhesive to back of mural before hanging to insure proper adhesion.
